East Gippsland Institute of TAFE - together
with Podiatrist Mal Walker of East Gippsland Podiatry - have combined
their expertise to provide a unique opportunity for healthcare
professionals and trained health carers to extend their range
of services in the foot and hand care industry.
Foot and Hand Carers provide a basic foot
and hand care service in a way which is currently not available,
andfor treatment that does not require a Podiatrist's intervention.
The definition of a
"Foot and Hand Carer" is someone who :
'Trims nails, reduces corns
and calluses, massages, maintains and monitors the general
hygiene of hands and feet'.
Foot and Hand Carers don't diagnose,
they simply maintain foot and hand health, and refer to
foot specialists and general practitioners should problems
arise. |

Foot and Hand Carers are required
to work within the parameters of their qualification.
They are expected to consult as required
with an appropriate allied health professional.
Foot and Hand Carers provide domiciliary
care in regional and remote areas which cannot support specialist
care. |
Successful graduates of the Foot and Hand
Carers course will receive one of the following qualifications.
- Certificate III in Foot and Hand Care
- Certificate IV in Foot and Hand Care
These qualifications will also provide the
opportunity for the carers to join the professional Foot and Hand
Carers Association.
